FAQs
Obesity and obesity treatment
What is obesity and how is it defined?
Obesity is a long-term health condition characterized by excess body fat, which can negatively impact health. Obesity is a chronic disease resulting from a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. This leads to a significantly increased risk of numerous diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer.
What health risks are associated with obesity?
Obesity is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis and other chronic diseases.
How can I tell if I am obese?
Obesity is generally diagnosed using BMI, a calculation that takes your weight and height into account. Please speak to your doctor or obesity clinic about diagnosis and treatment.
What are the most effective treatments for obesity?
Please speak to your doctor or obesity clinic.
What is GLP-1 and how effective is this class of drugs in the treatment of obesity?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone that regulates blood sugar and appetite. GLP-1 medications mimic this hormone. They are very effective for weight management, with some medications leading to an average weight loss of 15-17%. Please talk to your doctor or obesity clinic about what is right for you.
What are the side effects of GLP-1 and GLP-1-based treatments (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound)?
The most common side effects of GLP-1 are gastrointestinal and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. According to scientific literature, 40–70% of patients treated with GLP-1-based therapy experience gastrointestinal side effects, although they have sometimes been reported in up to 85%. Please speak to your doctor or obesity clinic for further details.
What impact do the side effects have on obesity therapy based on GLP-1 (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound)?
In addition to the symptoms themselves, side effects can significantly impair quality of life, causing persistent suffering and limiting daily activities. GLP-1 side effects can lead to temporary or permanent discontinuation of treatment, reduced quality of life, frustration, and a failure to achieve the expected results of obesity therapy.
Many patients experience treatment interruptions. In a large US real-world study of nearly 170,000 patients, discontinuation rates of 30% were observed after four weeks. Side effects of obesity therapy not only reduce treatment effectiveness but also negatively impact patients' quality of life, leading to frustration for patients and their families and potentially resulting in treatment discontinuation. Another significant challenge in obesity therapy is that time spent in doctor-patient consultations addressing side effects often distracts from meaningful discussions about obesity treatment and reduces focus on long-term health strategies. For further details, please consult your doctor or obesity clinic.
Gut health, gut microbiome and probiotics
What is gut health?
Gut health refers to the optimal functioning of the digestive system, including efficient digestion and nutrient absorption, a balanced gut microbiome, proper intestinal barrier function, and a healthy immune response. It encompasses the well-being of the entire gastrointestinal tract, from the stomach to the intestines and colon. A healthy gut is characterized by a diverse community of beneficial microorganisms and the absence of digestive problems. The gut is often referred to as the second brain.
What is the connection between obesity and gut health?
Studies have shown that obesity is associated with changes in the composition of the gut microbiome, typically characterized by reduced diversity of gut bacteria. Compared to lean individuals, obese people often have different proportions of certain bacterial strains, for example, a higher ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes.
What is the gut microbiome?
The gut microbiome comprises the trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi, that live in our digestive tract. These microorganisms play a crucial role in digestion, immune function, and overall health.
What influence does the gut microbiome have on overall health?
The gut microbiome influences various aspects of health, including digestion, metabolism, immune function, and even mental health. A balanced microbiome can contribute to better overall health, while an imbalanced microbiome can lead to various health problems and a reduced quality of life.
What are probiotics and how do they promote gut health?
Probiotics are live, beneficial bacteria that can offer health benefits when consumed in sufficient quantities. They help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, support digestion, strengthen the immune system, and more.
Can probiotics help with weight loss?
Some studies suggest that certain probiotic strains may aid weight loss by influencing metabolism, reducing fat absorption, and regulating appetite hormones. However, for optimal results, probiotics should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.
What are prebiotics and how do they differ from probiotics?
Prebiotics are dietary fibers that feed the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Unlike probiotics, which are live bacteria, prebiotics are indigestible food components that promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
How can I improve my gut health naturally?
You can improve your gut health by eating a varied and high-fiber diet, consuming fermented foods, drinking enough fluids, reducing stress, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep. These measures help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria.
Which foods are good for gut health?
Foods that promote gut health include fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, fermented foods such as yogurt and kimchi, whole grains, and foods high in polyphenols such as berries, dark chocolate, and green tea.
How does stress affect gut health?
Stress can negatively impact gut health by altering the balance of gut bacteria, increasing intestinal permeability, and impairing digestion. Stress management techniques such as meditation or exercise can help maintain a healthy gut.
Can gut health affect mental health?
Yes, there is a strong link between gut health and mental health, often referred to as the gut-brain axis. The gut microbiome can influence the production of neurotransmitters and potentially affect mood and cognitive function.
Can gut health affect treatment with GLP-1-based products (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound)?
Yes, good gut health can improve the effectiveness of obesity treatment with GLP-1 and GLP-1-based products. A balanced gut microbiome may enhance the body's response to these medications. Beneficial gut bacteria can produce metabolites that stimulate natural GLP-1 secretion. Furthermore, a healthy gut can support better intestinal barrier function, which could contribute to overall treatment effectiveness and reduce side effects. By maintaining good gut health, patients can optimize their response to obesity therapy, potentially leading to better outcomes, including greater weight loss, improved quality of life, a lower likelihood of treatment dropout, and more sustainable treatment results.
How long does it take for gut health to improve?
While reactions vary from person to person, some people notice improvements in digestion and overall well-being within a few days to weeks after positive changes or taking a probiotic. However, significant changes in the composition of the gut microbiome can take several months. There is still much we don't know about the gut microbiome.
Are there any risks associated with taking probiotic supplements?
While probiotics are generally safe for most people, those with weakened immune systems or serious medical conditions should consult a doctor before taking probiotic supplements.
Forte80®
What is Forte80®?
Forte80® is a high-dose dietary supplement containing four carefully selected, scientifically studied bacterial strains. It was specifically developed for adults who wish to support their gut microbiome balance during GLP-1-based weight loss or dietary changes.
How does Forte80® work?
Forte80® contains live microorganisms (a total of 80 billion colony-forming units per day) that can contribute to the natural diversity of the gut microbiome. The bacterial strains included were selected for their stability, origin, and scientific characterization. The aim is to support the balance of the gut flora – especially during periods of change in diet, appetite, or digestion.
What are the main ingredients of Forte80®?
Forte80® is a scientifically formulated probiotic dietary supplement designed to comprehensively support patients in the treatment of obesity. Each serving (2 capsules daily) contains a total of 80 billion CFU, carefully distributed among four scientifically validated probiotic strains:
- Bifidobacterium lactis AZHx1: 45 billion CFU;
- Lactobacillus reuteri AZHx2: 5 billion CFU;
- Lactobacillus casei AZHx3: 15 billion CFU;
- Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG AZHx4: 15 billion CFU.
Azento Health® developed three of these strains and holds the intellectual property rights.
Is Forte80® powerful?
The formulation is based on a comprehensive understanding of the gut microbiome, gut health, biotics, obesity, and GLP-1/AOM therapy. The multi-strain formulation provides a complementary and synergistic effect. 80 billion CFU is a high CFU count for a probiotic product, and this can lead to a greater and more sustained effect on the gut microbiome. High CFU counts are often associated with stronger probiotic effects, including better support for gut health and immune function.
How do you ensure that the probiotic capsules reach the correct location in the gut microbiome?
Forte80® is encapsulated in a plant-based capsule and protected with cryo-technology, ensuring its stability through the stomach and bile acids. This allows it to withstand the harsh digestive environment and reach the intestines intact. The capsule is designed to dissolve only upon reaching the intestines, where the pH is more alkaline. In the gut, the probiotic strains can effectively colonize and support the microbiome. This targeted delivery system maximizes the positive effects of our product on gut health.
When should I take Forte80®?
You can take the capsules at any time. We recommend taking them first thing in the morning before breakfast. This will provide fantastic support for your weight loss goals and your day.
How long does it take for results to become visible with Forte80®?
Individual responses can vary depending on factors such as diet, lifestyle, and overall health. The high CFU count (80 billion) in Forte80® contributes to potentially faster and more pronounced effects compared to a lower-concentration formulation. Initial effects are typically seen within 1-7 days, and the full expected effect is expected within 4-12 weeks. Consistent and long-term use is crucial to achieving and maintaining the full benefits of Forte80®—and other probiotics.
The combination of different probiotic strains allows for a multifaceted approach to gut health, addressing various aspects of GLP-1-related side effects, overall digestive well-being, and gut health.
Can Forte80® be used in conjunction with other weight loss methods?
Yes, it is intended for use with obesity products such as GLP-1. It is not an obesity medication, but a supplement that supports patients with good gut health in their weight loss efforts.
Is Forte80® suitable for everyone?
Probiotics are generally safe for most people. However, people with weakened immune systems, those under 18, or those with serious health problems should consult a doctor before taking probiotic supplements.
How does Forte80® differ from other weight loss supplements?
Forte80® is a scientifically formulated probiotic food supplement designed to comprehensively support patients in the treatment of obesity. Developed with passion, based on cutting-edge science. By a company fully committed to supporting the gut health of patients with obesity – and assisting them on their weight loss journey.
When should I start taking Forte80®?
Anytime is good. We recommend starting Forte80® 2-4 weeks before beginning obesity treatment with a GLP-1-based product to avoid some of the potential side effects. Alternatively, you can also take it at the start of obesity treatment or whenever you need support for your gut health on your journey to weight loss.
